If spaces are still available after September 8, you will be welcome to attend one free trial class. We will announce available spots through our social media channels (Instagram and Facebook) and by email. If you are interested, please contact us by email.
For now, our programs are organized by age group rather than language proficiency level. Our youngest program, Prve reci (First Words), for ages 1-3, is designed for children at all levels of Serbian language exposure and development. For the older age groups (ages 3-5 and 5-7), children should have at least a basic understanding of Serbian. Depending on the child's speaking ability, there are two options: - If a child can speak in Serbian sentences (even with some effort), they can attend classes independently. - If a child understands Serbian but only uses a few words in Serbian, a parent or another adult family member should attend and actively participate in class.
If there is enough interest, we may organize beginner classes in the future. Until then, we encourage families to begin introducing Serbian into their child's everyday life at home. We will soon share practical tips on how to approach this challenging but important journey.
Congratulations! This is a wonderful achievement and the best possible foundation. Unfortunately, a heritage language can be lost very quickly once children begin spending most of their day in preschool, school, or other environments where another language dominates. Kutak exists as a support against this natural shift. Kutak is a place where children not only continue developing their Serbian skills, but also gain another reason to use Serbian: friendships, children's literature, play, and the community we are building together that strengthen all the efforts families already make to help their children stay connected to their language and cultural heritage.
